Let NMEL
Protect your golden years…
One might call us Estate Planning Lawyers focused exclusively on old people but that’s not quite the whole cup of tea…. we do Estate Litigation, Wills, Trusts, Guardianship, Medicaid planning and believe it or not we help young people plan for their golden years too. We draft estate plans and draft powers of attorney and every other legal document necessary for a Family Toolbox or a Medicaid Toolbox or for an Estate Plan Toolbox. We plan for generations to come.… we even help you and your other advisors properly fund everything. We draft Ladybird Deeds where appropriate or maybe a situation warrants a Lion Cub Deed or Reverse Lion Cub Deed, we can help make that determination.
Elder issues are among the most stressful and overwhelming periods in life.
That’s where we can help so don’t stress aging… call us!

WHO’S NMEL?
Northern Michigan Elder Law specializes in Elder Law and is not a general practice firm. In short, we handle all matters dealing with one’s life and possessions. Our singular team focus is to serve the following counties with Elder Law services:
COUNTIES WE SERVE | |||
---|---|---|---|
Mackinac / Mackinaw County | Emmet County | Presque Isle County | Alpena County |
Montmorency County | Otsego County | Antrim County | Grand Traverse County |
Benzie County | Leelanau County | Kalkaska County | Crawford County |
Oscoda County | Alcona County | Manistee County | Wexford County |
Missaukee County | Roscommon County | Ogemaw County | Iosco County |
We even handle estate administration and litigation issues on Mackinaw Island, Beaver Island, and Drummond Island….
NMEL will handle all matters that affect aging in Northern Michigan. For many, we handle matters all over the state. Examples include, second marriage contracts to insure heirs are treated fairly, business legal contracts to plan for succession or protect accumulated assets, selling of Real Estate or consolidating property interests; often we are deeding property into ladybird deeds to make them medicaid compliant and non-countable; sometimes we are called upon to formulate a plan to qualify for medicaid while not making the other spouse poor by compiling all the necessary documents and formulating a plan to provide for the community spouse. Sometimes fixes are obvious and quick, others difficult.
We have managed estate administrations, settled trust disputes, and even handled litigation all over Michigan. Several of our clients reside in Allegan County, since David Dobreff Law initially opened in Douglas, Michigan, so we regularly commute downstate to serve their needs.
Our mission is to alleviate the stress of aging and let our clients focus on enjoying life in Northern Michigan now and in the future. Our aim is to offer them sound advice and find them solutions.
Living in Northern Michigan should come with good legal and community services as we age, let us help you and your loved ones. Let us coordinate an estate plan for your assets and update you regularly with an eye on how things play out up here.
